If both parties seal the deal, ChatGPT is expected to enter Apple’s next operating software update, iOS 18.
Tech giant Apple is reportedly in the final stages of negotiating a contract with OpenAI to use ChatGPT features on the iPhone, according to people familiar with the matter.
If the plan goes through, ChatGPT features will be implemented in Apple’s upcoming software update iOS 18, according to a May 11 Bloomberg report. It was noted that Apple is also in discussions with Alphabet — Google’s parent company— regarding the potential integration of the Gemini chatbot. However, it was suggested that these discussions aren’t as advanced as those with Apple.
It is unclear at this stage whether users will have the option to disable these features on their devices as part of the new operating system or not.
Just a year ago, rumors circulated that Apple had limited company use of ChatGPT due to concerns about potential compromise of sensitive data.
However, there have been mounting reports in recent times that Apple is ramping up efforts to establish its own artificial intelligence (AI) division.
On April 30, Cointelegraph reported that Apple had been recruiting experts from Google to build its own team of AI and machine learning experts.
Apart from assembling teams of AI experts, Apple has also recently acquired two local AI startups in Zurich, Switzerland, which led it to build a “secretive” laboratory in the area called “Vision Lab.”
On May 11, Apple mentioned Octane — a 3D design software powered by the Render Network — in its keynote presentation showing off its M4 chip on its latest iPad.
Render Token (RNDR) jumped 11% after the mention. Among the top 10 AI tokens, it has seen the most growth over the past 7 days, up 18%, while Fetch.ai (FET) is down 0.77% and SingularityNET (AGIX) is down 0.15% over the same period, per CoinMarketCap data.
